SOMERSWORTH — The Belmont boys' basketball team had a wild ride this season, and while the team was able to pull an opening round upset over Mascenic in the state tournament, the Red Raiders' season ended with a 57-43 loss to Somersworth.

The 10th-ranked Belmont squad beat seventh-ranked Mascenic by a score of 44-42 on March 1. The Red Raiders held Mascenic to only four points in the fourth quarter and managed to come back from a seven-point deficit in what coach Jim Cilley called "a dramatic win."

Senior Dylan Gansert scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter to lead the way for the Red Raiders. Aiden Rupp had 11 points in the win and Griffin Embree had seven points. Caleb Burke had a quality game off the bench, chipping in with six points in the third quarter.

On March 3, the Red Raiders lost to second-ranked Somersworth by a score of 57-43. It was a tight game throughout, with Somersworth taking a 20-19 lead into halftime. The Red Raiders trailed 36-25 going into the fourth quarter and trailed by as much as 16 points at one point. However, the Belmont squad never gave up and fought back to within seven points twice, but couldn't get over the top.

"Free throws in the last minute extended it to look worse than it was," Cilley said.

Leading the way for Belmont was junior Matt Pluskis, who had 14 points in the game. His career total now stands at 947 points. Embree had 13 points and Gansert chipped in with seven points.

Belmont finished its season with a 12-8 record overall.
