PLYMOUTH — With a fairly young team, new head coach Brittany Lucas is counting on her returning players to help pace the Plymouth hoop girls this year.

"The team is young, so I am really counting on my returning seniors to lead and set an example of how we need to practice, prepare and play," Lucas said. "This is a rebuilding year for us, but I have been extremely pleased with the effort of each and every girls that has come out this year."

Lucas, who was the JV and assistant coach for the past three years under Dave Levesque, brings plenty of experience to the sideline, as she has worked as an assistant alongside her father, Mike Gallagher, at the varsity level and she is excited to be taking on the new role with her father as the assistant coach.

"I am excited about that, since basketball has been our thing since he was my coach," Lucas said.

The Bobcats will be led by three seniors in Elaina Manson, Olivia Homer and Tarryn Rhude, all of whom return to the fold for their final season in blue and white. They are joined by sophomore Kayley Merrifield who saw significant time as a freshman during last year's unusual season.

"We are going to be small, but looking to play up-tempo basketball and defense is where we are looking to be tough and strong," Lucas said. "The season is very quick, so we are trying to prepare as much in a short amount of time as possible."

Lucas knows that there will be challenges ahead for the girls, but she is pleased with the group of kids that she has on her bench this year.

"Overall, looking forward to tackling some of the challenges that are ahead of us this season and to getting to coach a great group of young females," she added.

The Bobcats will be returning to a normal Division II schedule after last year's unusual COVID-altered schedule. They will play two games each with Kingswood and Kennett and single games against Milford, Hollis-Brookline, Bow, Con-Val, Oyster River, John Stark, Sanborn, Pembroke, Merrimack Valley, Pelham, Coe-Brown, Laconia, Timberlane and Manchester West.

The season officially kicks off on Friday, Dec. 10, with a home game against Milford at 6:30 p.m. The Bobcats head to Hollis-Brookline on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m.
