Holiday events going on this weekend

December 02, 2021
REGION — Gingerbread decorating, a town wide market of handcrafted gifts, a tree lighting, a community holiday party are just a few of the holiday events this weekend and beyond.

Several holiday events are scheduled throughout the region this weekend and in the next few weeks.

The Meredith Community Center will be turned into a holiday wonderland this Saturday with a gingerbread decorating contest and much more. The Greater Meredith Program and Meredith Altrusa have teamed up to offer the gingerbread decorating contest on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. A selection of decorated trees will also be on display and Altrusa will offer free books for kids. Ms. Gingerbread will also be out handing out bendable gingerbread figures.

The Moultonborough PTA's annual holiday fair is back on Saturday as an in-person event this year. The 50th Annual Moultonborough PTA Holiday Fair will take place Saturday, Dec. 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Moultonborough Central School. This year's fair will feature over 30 crafters, more than 100 raffle items, the Boy Scouts selling wreathes and Christmas trees, Moultonborough Academy seniors selling waffles on a stick, and many more.

Moultonborough will hold its annual tree lighting on Saturday, Dec. 4. This year resident Ben Johnson donated a tree from his property to be used as the town's Christmas Tree. The tree will be lit on the former Taylor House property during a tree lighting event from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The event will also feature caroling, refreshments, and more.

Sandwich will celebrate the holidays with the 45th annual Christmas in the Village Craft and Holiday Fair on Dec. 4-5. More than 30 local artisans will sell their creations at over a dozen locations around Center and North Sandwich. The fair will carry over last year's practice of having smaller venues with some crafters going virtual. Masks and social distancing will also be required at all locations.

Every child in Sandwich can get a holiday present during the annual Community Tree party on Saturday, Dec. 18. The event hosted by the Sandwich Women's Club will take place outside the Samuel H. Wentworth Library on Dec. 18 from 1-3 p.m. Kids from birth to grade six, including siblings and students at the Sandwich Children's Center and Sandwich Central School, can get a special bag from Santa. Families are encouraged to bring drawings and letters for Santa.
