Meredith Altrusa seeking organizations for upcoming volunteer forum

August 01, 2019
MEREDITH — Organizations and prospective volunteers are wanted for a coming volunteer forum connecting people with local organizations.

The Meredith Altrusa Club will be holding a volunteer forum on Saturday, Sept. 21 and are seeking organizations to take part in the event.

"The whole point of it was to bring volunteer organizations together to get them volunteers," said Altrusan MaryAnne Skawinski.

Altrusa is sending letters to around 50 organizations asking them to be part of the forum. Skawinski said she's hoping to get replies by Aug. 21, hoping for around 40 to say they will take part. So far a few organizations have said they will definitely be part of this.

The club previously held a volunteer forum in March of 2009 before Volunteer Month in April. This time they want to do something to coincide with back to school time.

"We decided to do it in September thinking kids were going back to school, maybe people were thinking of something to do to get involved," Skawinski said.

September is also a slower time from summer, which means more people might be thinking of things to do. With a lot of people leaving for warmer areas in the winter she said a lot of organizations lose a lot of their volunteers for a while.

The volunteer forum will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Meredith Community Center. Organizations will be invited to set up tables and offer information for prospective volunteers. There will also be speakers from each organization talking about volunteering.

Any organization interested in displaying at the forum is asked to contact Skawinski at 832-9106 or at winski@metrocast.net.
