Northumberland School Board bumps pay for certified substitute teachers

NORTHUMBERLAND — During a recent school board meeting in Northumberland, board members unanimously voted to increase the pay for certified substitute teachers to $80 per day. The pay increase went into effect on Jan. 1.

In other business, a motion was made by board member Jessica Riendeau and seconded by Louise Collins not to sell the Northumberland School District Brown Road property. A vote was then taken in which Louise Collins, Riendeau, Glenn Cassady all voted yes and James Weagle voted no. The motion passed with majority.

Another motion was made by Collins and seconded by Riendeau to approve and grant the four administrators a two-year contract with a 2.5 percent raise in each year. A vote was taken, and all were in favor.

The board also voted to approve the hiring of an In School Suspension position at the Groveton Elementary School that will go into effect for the 2019-2020 budget year. All board members were in favor.
