WHITEFIELD — The White Mountains Regional High School baseball team entered the week in a groove with a four-game winning streak. The shift began on May 4, when the team bested Winnisquam 7-2. Two days later the Spartans took down Inter-Lakes in a close 5-4 game. On May 9 the team defeated Newport 17-1 and on May 11 the Spartans bested Colebrook 5-0.

The Spartans sat the Mohawks down fairly quickly in the top of the first inning with pitcher Griffin Crane banking one strikeout. Other plays by Riley Corrigan in left field and Jared Plumley in right field sent the Spartans on the offense. In the bottom half Crane, Jack Curtis and Nick Foster each made contact but were thrown out at first. Corrigan reached first but was left stranded.

Crane banked another strikeout in the top of the second inning but walked one Mohawk. Plays by Connor Bosse at second and Curtis at shortstop earned the next two outs. The Spartans lit up the board in the bottom half by scoring two runs. Braxton Brown reached first after getting hit by the pitch and Lucas Nast singled to reach first. Back to back singles by Jake Labounty and Plumley pushed the guys around the diamond. The inning ended with the Spartans up 2-0.

The Mohawks put the pressure on the Spartans during the top of the third inning with three men on base. Two Crane strikeouts and a catch in left field by Corrigan ended the scare and sent the Mohawks back to the dugout. The Spartans added two more runs in the bottom half. Curtis reached first on a walk and Corrigan doubled. Singles by Foster and Brown sealed the deal. The score was 4-0 heading into the fourth inning.

Spartan coach Ben Hicks put Nast on the mound to start the fourth inning. Nast gave up one hit but netted one strikeout. The Spartans were unlucky in the bottom half with Plumley and Bosse making contact but were unable to out run the throw to first. Crane reached first on a walk and stole second but was left stranded.

Nast had two strikeouts in the top of the fifth inning and a play by Nast over to Crane on first led to a fast half. During the bottom half Corrigan, Foster and Brown each smacked the ball into the infield but could not reach first. The score remained 4-0 heading into the sixth inning.

The Spartans added the last run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Nast singled and was moved around by singles from Plumley and Bosse. The game ended with the Spartans celebrating the 5-0 win.

Junior Elijah Ratliff said, "These are the games we have to win to get back into the division. We had a decent day at the plate, that along with great pitching from Griffin, Luke and Braxton got us a much needed win. The team came together these last four games and it shows."
