Local communities announce tax rates

November 20, 2018
REGION — In perhaps the least favorite holiday season tradition, property owners around the county are receiving their annual property tax bills. As of press time, 11 Carroll County towns had their 2018 tax rate set with just Bartlett and Tamworth remaining.

There are some significant changes in tax rates compared to 2017. Albany jumped from $14.85 in 2017 to $16.92 per thousand assessed valuation in 2018. Madison's rate dropped from $18.93 to $16.90 this year. Eaton's tax rate fell from $12.67 to $10.84. Tax rates in Conway, Freedom, Sandwich and Tuftonboro remained near level.

Although the total assessed value of all Ossipee properties went up about $1 million dollars compared to 2017, the tax rate increased from $19.20 to $20.80, due mainly to the school portion of the tax bill. Add in the fire precinct rates and the total rate for Center Ossipee is $22.37, Ossipee Corner $23.33 and West Ossipee $23.10.

Effingham's total valuation remained stagnant and the tax rate increased 40 cents to $22.25. Wolfeboro's rate increased 82 cents to $15.80 while Moultonborough's rate fell 50 cents to $7.72.

In Wakefield, the total property valuation jumped $193 million and has now surpassed the billion-dollar mark at $1,100,079,865. Their tax rate dropped $1.39 to $11.26.
