BERLIN — It's time again for the river to be set afire and for zombies, ATV's, food, live music, games, prizes and so much more. Considered to be the hottest event of the season, RiverFire happens this Saturday.

The annual event, per usual, is to be held at the Service Credit Union Park and is hosted by the Androscoggin Valley Chamber of Commerce (AVCC) and presented by Service Credit Union. RiverFire draws residents and visitors to the banks of the Androscoggin River to watch the lighting of the river's historic boom piers. Admission to the park free and ATV's are welcome. Separate charges apply for each event.

"Riverfire is really coming together nicely this year with so many new additions to the event along with all the Riverfire favorites we have grown to love," said Paula Kimmey, Executive Director of the Chamber. "Signature events such as Riverfire have proven to put our area on the map with many visitors returning on non-event weekends as well. Looking forward to another record breaking event for 2018."

There is something for everyone, so bring the whole family.

Shuttle rides will be provided by Berlin City Chevrolet, Buick and GMC.

The fun kicks off with the annual Zombie ATV Poker Run. Dress up in Zombie attire with your OHRV, car, truck or motorcycle and compete. Registration at the park is from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be prizes for best and worst hand and best use of the zombie theme. Prizes were donated by local businesses.

There will be food vendors, other vendors, beer tent and Little Hooves Traveling Petting Zoo. Also at 2 p.m., there will be a 5K run along the river.

New activities this year include a cornhole Tournament beginning at 11:30 a.m., haunted zombie maze, live chainsaw carving with SubZero Ice Carving, additions to the RiverFire Kidz Zone with the Mining Sluice and scenic helicopter rides over the beautiful fall foliage and Androscoggin River (catch rides at Horne Field for an additional fee).

Returning activities include hay rides, a bouncy house (sponsored by Chapman Scrap Metal & Demolition), petting zoo, and much more.

At 5 p.m., kids can participate in the Children's Halloween Costume Parade. They will line up at Brown School and proceed down Main Street to the park.

At 5:30 p.m. is the Not So Scary Halloween Party in the haunted logging camps in the park. The parade will march to the party where there will be games, prizes, candy and more.

At 6 p.m., the country rock band Duke will provide live entertainment.

At dusk, the boom piers will be set aflame and the pumpkins on the bridge will be lit.
